Waterjet Cutting for High Quality Precision Products
At AST Waterjet we have three large tables with ten cutting heads that all utilize the latest in CNC controls and Diamond Waterjet cutting heads to ensure
that we cut our products with the highest quality and efficiency. Our 150 horsepower pumps ensure that we are delivering 55,000 PSI to all of our cutting heads.
We can accommodate the largest of materials and metal plate thanks to the bed sizes of our Waterjet Cutting tables. Our tables measure:
2-head, 96" x 144" table (5-Axis Cutting)
4-head, 48" x 96" table
4-head, 168" x 192" table
Advantage Waterjet
Waterjet machines can cut through materials considered "unmachinable" by conventional cutting methods. As such, waterjet cutting has significant advantages over competing cutting methods, such as routers, Hi-Def Plasma, laser cutting and EDM. Waterjet cutting can be an alternative to casting forged blanks.
Complex Cutting that’s Cost Effective
The advantages of abrasive waterjet cutting extend beyond its cost-competitiveness with other cutting techniques. Waterjet machines are capable of complex and difficult shapes, such as inside corners, notches, architectural and artistic shapes. Waterjet cutting is a CAD driven process, thus it also offers the capability of repeatability, not available with most other cutting methods. Waterjet can be used for cutting composites and plastics that cannot tolerate heat, mechanical damage or delamination.
Mass Production with Micro Precision
The CNC controlled and narrow kerf (or cut) resulting from the waterjet cut allows for exceptionally efficient usage of expensive materials such as titanium, composites and optical glass. The narrow kerf also allows for optimum material yields due to tight nesting of the parts (tight tolerances / - .005" depending on the material). In addition the process provides mass production capability with exception repeatability. Parts can be re-manufactured by simply reentering previously run computer programs.

Why Waterjet Cutting?
Waterjet Cutting is Efficient
Waterjet cutting is several times faster that Wire EDM and much cleaner than Plasma cutting; yet it also has the ability to cut through all materials, conductive and non-conductive alike. This creates an efficient option for your cutting needs.
Waterjet Cutting is Precise
AST Waterjet uses the latest in computer controls to produce accurate and precise CNC cutting up to / - .005”.
Waterjet is Versatile
Abrasive waterjet cutting technology can cut through most materials.
No Heat Affected Zones
Unlike Laser cutting, Waterjet cutting imparts no heat to the material being cut, resulting in no HAZ (Heat Affected Zone).
Environmentally Friendly
Waterjet cutting is an environmentally friendly solution compared to many other complex cutting operations. Everything we use to cut our shapes is an all-natural product and cutting oils and aids are not needed with this process. The process is clean, does not create dust, by-products like grindings and chips, or chemical air pollution. The Waterjet stream carries away the eroded material, practically eliminating dust and does not generate pollutants and fumes associated with other cutting methods.
